Personal influence can be used in various aspects of our lives, including the workplace. In the workplace, personal influence drives building relationships, gaining support, and achieving goals. But, can how we show up in the workplace live on beyond the office? For me, it should. If I can’t show up at work similar to how I would show up outside of work, I’m in constant conflict with myself. Enter all the layers of imposter syndrome.

The reason I’m putting it out there is because I don’t have it all together and someone needs to know that. We get to choose how we make it through all the mess and we don’t have to be batting 100 every time. What matters is that we are coming up to bat!

Through my divorce I tied myself to the idea of “they didn’t ask for this”. Though true, “this” slowly snowballed into meaning just about anything. It became my responsibility to stop the trickle down effect on children through divorce. It’s not fair that they have to figure out how to navigate, grow and learn to be adults through two separate paths, but here we are. I can’t control what’s out of my control and I need to forgive myself for that.

Can I admit my first inclination is NOT to draw the line. It is in fact, to find another thing to DO. In my mind, when I am still, I am not enough. In the words of a friend of mine, the Holy Spirit is still massaging that out of me. We all have something that takes a constant renewing of our minds to work out. Mine is doing does not determine my worth. I am still worthy and valuable without the busyness of always doing something.
