2021 – Let’s make this the year of living!

Goodbye, good riddance, see ya later, get out of here, go away, bye…those are the only nice ways I have of telling 2020 peace out! Has it been a year to remember or one to forget for you? I feel like we are all floating somewhere in the middle. One moment of brutal honesty here, crossing over to January 1 will not make it all go away. Now that we have that out of the way, lets get back to it. I don’t usually make firm new year resolutions. I’m the person you find making self commitments all year long. This year, 2020 certainly won’t be missed but there’s still no New Year, New Me. While I know I have changed in many ways, none of that change happens from one day to the next, just because the year changes on the calendar. The change happens over time. SO MUCH TIME. The pressure to suddenly realize what you need to make new about yourself at the start of a new year is a terrible lie, a trick. There is no magic that sprinkles down from the New Year’s Eve fireworks. It’s just in us. Right now, before the clock strikes midnight. We already have it. What we often lack is the desire or knowledge to activate it. We always have the power!

Have your cake and eat it too!

So, what are you reaching for in 2021? Career goals or change, adjustments in your personal relationships, how you react or respond to things, your giving, spiritual life or the way you care for others or yourself? My number one priority is to always know who I am. That includes my flaws and areas of excellence! When you spend the time to learn who you are, the way you behave (or lack there of) in any situation is already something you are are aware of. You can proactively approach situations, no matter what they are, in a way that will be most beneficial to you and those you’re engaging with. Know your triggers! Know your shortcomings! Know your issues! We all have them.

If you’ve read anything I’ve written before, you know I STRUGGLE with perfection. I am a do it yourself person because I don’t want to wait for anyone else to put forth their half way effort. There, I said it. I want what I want. Let me also just say that, friends, that is a recipe for disaster 100% of the time. Everyone does not just live in my world. I fall short of my own perfection and still throw it around like confetti if I’m not careful to recognize it before it happens. Constant work y’all but I’m here for it! So let’s make this next year one to remember for the work we were willing to do all year long. I’ve committed to have my cake and eat it too! I’m going to live this life! I’m doing it tired, frustrated, happy, whatever the mood. Not lacking in loving me for me but also not lacking in knowing me for me. If you want better, do better. Life passes us by far too quickly to just keep waking up each day, wishing the next one would come already.

Lose the push to change once a year and rush through the rest of it. We miss out on life when the reality is, tomorrow is going to be exactly the same if we aren’t living for today.

Here are a few things that I’ve used to discover me! Add these to your list to get started on finding you this year. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Note: The results for each one of these should closely line up if you are honest when giving your response. Doesn’t matter where you start! The language may be different based on the specific aim of the test, but your general type descriptions should consistently come back the same.

Happy New Year Friends!
