Some days just feel like all I did was fail. I know I’m not alone in that feeling. So many know what I mean and exactly what that feels like. By the end of days like this I just want to close my eyes and say Jesus, show me what you see in me, because today, I don’t feel it, I don’t see it – at all. I’m letting out a big sigh as I write this and try to shift my thinking to tomorrow. A better day, a fresh perspective, and a new opportunity to just go again because Jesus really is willing to wipe today clean for me to go again tomorrow. I can be willing to let go of all the moments of failure from today but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Changing your mindset is one of those things in life that is just hard and may even take some real work and practice.
I’m usually a pretty harsh critic of myself. I struggle with perfection, which we all know is unattainable. As much as I hate to admit it, it’s my own desire for that same unattainable perfection that causes me to end some days feeling like all I did was fail. Didn’t finish that task at work – fail. That load of laundry that’s already been washed twice still hasn’t made it to the dryer – fail. Dinner planned and forgot to pick up one ingredient – fail. Raised my voice at the kids – super fail. The list can literally go on forever when I get started on myself. So this is me, reminding myself and maybe even reminding you that we don’t need to be perfect for life to be good – for us to be good. No, we aren’t always going to get it right or just how we want it but does that really matter? What’s more important is how we come back from falling short or making the wrong decision.
22Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
